What Estill means for you
Working with a certified master teacher of Estill voicecraft means you are training the voice with an expert who understands the function of the larynx in anatomical terms and can give you the training and exercises you need to get the most from your voice. In short you might have a problem or question that you want to solve or answer, James will be able to work with you to establish why exactly you can't achieve what you are trying to and help you to establish muscularity which will make a particular vocal quality acceptable. Vocal sessions will not always need to be highly technical, James uses a lot of imagery and vocal exercises to achieve results but it is important that any vocal coach understands the workings of the larynx as this is their area of expertise!

Estill Voice Training
Founded in 1988 by Jo Estill, Estill voice training is a cutting edge approach to voice which gives singers and speakers the tools to maximise their vocal potential. Based on the premise that 'everyone has a beautiful voice' the Estill model takes the anatomy and physiology of the human larynx and provides answers and solutions to
vocal problems and challenges.

Starting out her career as a singer Jo quickly became frustrated with the apprehension of going on stage and not knowing exactly what sound was going to come out. As is the case with many performers Jo found herself crossing her fingers and hoping for the best! Jo wasn't at all happy with this as an approach to the voice and decided to do something about it, through years of research and a lifetime of dedication Jo conducted experiments to establish exactly how we created different sound in the larynx and in particular looked at six voice qualities: Speech, Sob/Cry, Twang, Falsetto, Belt and Opera.

The Estill model gives us the tools we need to create safe and sustainable singing and speaking and gives performers vocal freedom to achieve their goals. Vocal health is at the centre of the model and there is no aesthetic bias as long as voice is produced safely.
